Bexar County voters in November passed Proposition 2, which qualified some child care centers in the San Antonio region for at least a 50% exemption of property taxes under Senate Bill 1145, which the Texas Legislature passed last session.

Now that cities and counties can implement the new law, San Antonio and Bexar County are seeking a 100% property tax exemption for child care facilities, joining Dallas, Austin and Denton in being among the first cities to implement the tax break.

In San Antonio, 176 centers qualify for the tax cut — which is why Mayor Ron Nirenberg said the city wants to implement the tax break.
